Several of my applications have unexpectedly quit. It's about every 15-20 minutes. I have OSX 3.9 on a G4 with all the latest updates. The two that give me the most problems are Quark XPress 6.5 and Entourage 10.1.4. Quark was unable to rectify the problem. I have medium level of tech ability knowledge.

Jennifer, welcome to macosx.com

May I suggest you -as a first attempt to solve this issue- the following maintenance tips ?

(1) Could you try to repair permissions
(must be admin)
Launch Applications/Utilities/DiskUtility
On the left pane, select the drive
On the right, select the First Aid (or SOS) tab
Then click on repair permissions and let run; don not worry about messages like " new permissions...."
Quit DiskUtility
Shutdown and reboot

(2) could also download Macjanitor
http://personalpages.tds.net/~brian_...acjanitor.html
and use it to run the maintenance scripts
The maintenance scripts are Unix scripts which are automatically ran on your
Mac between 02Am and 04 am..if your Mac is on at this moment.
I can advice you to run, through Macjanitor, the daily script each day, the week script each week, ..and so on

(3) Could you also download Onyx
http://www.titanium.free.fr/pgs/english.html
and use it to clean the caches. use Onyx defaults

(4) Could you rebuild the Entourage database
Entourage 2004
------------
You must launch the Microsoft Database Utility.
1. Launch Entourage, holding down the “Option” key. Or, launch the Database Utility separately; it is located in /Applications/Microsoft Office 2004/Office/.
2. If you are prompted, allow the Database Utility to quit open Office applications.
3. Once the Database Utility is open, select your identity from the list at the top.
4. Click the “Rebuild Database” button, and click “Continue.” (If you are attempting to reduce database size to reclaim disk space and are not seeing signs of corruption, choose to "Compact")
Entourage X
----------
First go to Entourage -> Turn Off Office Notifications. Now, quit Entourage, and then restart Entourage holding down the Option key. When the Rebuild dialog box comes up, choose to do a Typical Rebuild. If that does not fix the problem, repeat the procedure, instead opting to do the Advanced Rebuild. Most of the serious problems you might encounter will require an Advanced Rebuild.
Entourage 2001
--------------
Quit Entourage, and then restart Entourage holding down the Option key. When the Rebuild dialog box comes up, choose to do a Typical Rebuild. If that does not fix the problem, repeat the procedure, instead opting to do the Advanced Rebuild. Most of the serious problems you might encounter will require an Advanced Rebuild.

(5) If this not helps, could you download the 10.3.9 combo update
http://www.apple.com/support/downloa...pdate1039.html
and re-apply it over your existing 10.3.9 ?

Regards
Philippe
