Hello,

I have a mac laptop with Tiger on it. It also has workgroup managment. I've noticed that applications will only run from the /applications folder, if I put them anywhere else, they just bounce and close. I'm wondering how this works for educational perposes. If I were to do this on a clean install of Mac, how could I do this? Would I also need osx server or is it a script of sorts? are there other ways of doing it?

thank you

If you're trying to stop download applications from launching, you can do with with parental controls in Tiger and only allow applications you select to launch - is this what you want to do?

Hi,
No that's not quite what I mean.

The behavior on my laptop is that ANY application, downloaded or preloaded, ilife, itunes anything, if they are in the /applications folder they will run like normal but if they are placed anywhere else, they bounce in the dock and don't open. Parental controls are n/a because it is a mobile account. Is this a script of sorts or part of osx server's functions, I have a student computer and doing research on their security....

Thank you
