Description:
I'm using OT 1.2, installed with OS 8, with FreePPP 2.6 and a Global Village Teleport Internet Edition modem.
When freshly booted up, my Mac dials into my ISP without problem. However if I close the PPP connection and attempt to reconnect, say by choosing "get mail" in Eudora or entering a URL in Navigator, half the time the computer just sits there churning away, and seems to not be able to find the modem/dialer.
If I manually open a dialup connection and then choose get mail, or a URL, both applications still can't communicate with the host. It's like it doesn't realize that there's an open connection. The only way to solve this is to restart the computer. Obviously, there's a lot of coffee to make while it boots up...
A friend of mine with an older, non-PowerPC Mac also has the same problem. Nothing on Apple's site that I can find seems to address this. Can it be that there's some bug in Open Trancsport? Your help to sort this out would greatly prolong my sanity. Thanks in advance.

Hi Ju-kay,
Try installing FreePPP 2.6.2. It's a new version, and much more stable than the previous versions. It's available at
ftp://members.aol.com/freepppgrp/freeppp262.sit.hqx
You may also want to visit the Global Village website and see if you have the latest software for your modem. Go to
http://www.globalvillage.com and take a look at the software section.
