i have g4 400mhz os 10.3.9 with pioneer dvr-105.
i recently tried to erase and rewrite some old dvd-rws
(pioneer and tdk 2x) and i get this error.

the drive reported an error
sense key = medium error
sense code = 0x57
unable to recover table-of-contents

click ok , then i get a:

couldn't complete last command because of a mac os error.
result code = 3

i think when i originally erased the dvd-rw i chose quick erase.

the drive still burns dvd-r and cd-r.

thanks

Are you using your Disk Utility to try the erase on a DVD-RW
The errors you get seem to refer to possible problems with media (your disks)
If Disk Utility does not accomplish anything, then I would suggest that those DVD-RW are trash (at least to re-use)

It won't even mount the DVD-RW on the desktop. So Disk Utility can't find it.
Toast gave the error message I describe in the original thread .
I didn't know that DVD-RW have such a short life. I'll stick to DVD-R.

Thank You

ok this is weird. I just put one of those bad DVD-RW's in and it mounted. I erased it with disk utilities and now it works fine.

what is going on?

Chris,

It could just be that your system did a hiccup. Give the other DVD-RW's a try and see if you can mount them and erase them.
