Description:
I have recently purchased an Astra 1220U UMAX scanner and I,m having problems with its ability to deal with printed matter(you know ,type) the folks at Computer City said this would be compatible with the iMac but at this point I'm wondering is it the software or is this scanner a piece of crap and I should pull a Mr. T as consumer advocate shtick on these guys to get consumer justice!

Hi Michael, my name is Ron and thank you for using No Wonder.
I take it you're having problems with OCR? (optical character recognition). If so, take heart. I purchased a UMAX 1200S a year ago and almost immediately found myself upgrading to a "real" OCR program. Applications furnished with scanners these days are usually "lite" versions, and if your bundled OCR program is like what I got, save youself the frustration & upgrade. Good OCR programs, like Omnipage Pro allow universal upgrades for like $99., and there is no comparison to what you're using. You've got a fine scanner, it's the software that can't figure out the text. Call CDW, Mac Zone or your favorite mail order store and ask about pricing. Hope this helps.
