Knowledge Level: Expert but stumped
Problem: Software
Computer Type: Apple
Model: 7500
RAM: 65+
RAM Enhancer: None
OS Version: MacOS 8.1

Description:
I am trying to help someone use claris e-mail lite (version 1.1v4) that came with their software.

The problem is that they can't seem to be able to put attachments in a form that can be read by other macs or pcs, for example trading MS Word (Office98/97 versions) files.

When attachments are selected, the only options are service default, no encoding BinHex, Base 64, UUencode. Trying all of these, none seemed to put the files in a format that could be read by PCs or even other Macs with identical software.

Any suggestions about what is going wrong??

Peter,
My name is Cheryl and I will be helping you. The encoding is the Emailer's compression. Base 64 should be used for the receiver who is a PC user. Service default is for the Mac receiver.
As for opening the files, for a PC user, the file must end in '.doc' and pictures must be .jpg or .gif, music - .wav Then their computer will recognize it. Of course it would be easier for the receiver to have the file already converted into a file format that they can easily open. That is save as MSWord98 IBM format. Some programs can save and convert for you. Some you must use another program such as MacLinkPlus. You can check it out at
This handy program also can convert MSWord-Mac to ClarisWorks4.0 or WordPerfect-mac to MSWord-mac.
I hope this helps you. Keep me posted if I can help more.
Cheryl
