Hi, macosx. I am putting together my website on iWeb. I do music and video. For the music, I intend to have quicktime files they can actually play. That is easy, i just drag it in.

I intend to also have the same song in a file they can download. Would you say .mp3 is the best? Since most people are Windows users and, and .mp3 is the most universal file format?

Also, for the playable part that loads and plays at the website... it doesn't really matter what that format is, right (I mean AAC or mp3. I was thinking of using AAC)? Because they need to have quicktime to play it, right? Thanks so much!

Howdy! Just create links to the files on your pages and then the user can click on it to either play (as they've set their browser) or download (right or control clicking).

Unless you stream the audio in flash or by some other means, you can't really control how the user's browser will download or play the songs you post. I don't recommend posting AAC as it's not as universal, or as small file-size wise, as mp3.

Thank you! For writing back. Okay... well when I drag an mp3 into a page, iWeb conveniently sets it up with a mini quicktime player. But that is downloadable, too? I have found websites' music isn't something I can download unless i have quicktime pro, which i do now, but is it setup by default as something you can download? Thanks again.

Yep, sounds like iWeb is streaming your audio files. If you show me a link I can figure out if the files you are uploading are downloadable. Try right clicking (control + click) on the resulting mini quicktime player for download options.

Go to an old band site of mine, the audio page, and you can play with the music links. When you click on one it asks if you want to download the mp3 file:

I don't have the website published yet, but I would be glad to send along a link when i do, next couple of days. Thanks so much!
