I recently bought an external hard drive for my mac (power book G4 1.67GHz PowerPC-512MB DDR2 SDRAM) and copied lots of files, images, videos applications etc to it and deleted them of my actual computer.

I did this to free up space but according to "get info" when selecting my startup disk icon; I have 1.78GB available out of 74.41GB!

My external hard drive is 160GB and with the switch I have done, all I have left on my computer are the necessary files etc, I need to get by.

WHY HAVE I ONLY GOT 1.78 GB LEFT ON MY COMPUTER?

I am not very computer literate but I know it should be more than that....

Hi Matthew - I will try to help you!
When you deleted those files from your internal drive, you probably put them in the trash...
Did you then empty the trash? It could take a considerable time to do that, maybe up to 15-20 minutes. I would suggest that you restart after making sure that the trash is empty. Then check your available space after that restart.

Come back here if you still need some help.

If you post your question on the main forums at this site, you will get helpful answers quite quickly, rather than here, where a common question such as yours gets a response from one person, usually. You'll get more looks at your question, and more likely to be seen by someone who can quickly give you a good answer.

Here's some software that you can use to help discover what is really using space on your hard drive.
