Hi there.
I have recently purchased an IBook,....love it!
But have some problems. Am not very computer literate to be honest.
For example, have just downloaded a bunch of videos using 'Limewire' and can not watch them/
I can watch the ones in Mpeg or Mpg but not avi
My comp. told me I needed to download some more Quicktime software and automatically took me to the Quicktime webpage, but I didnt know what I was to do from there - I downloaded a few things but it didnt do much
Do I have to convert these 'avi' files or what?
Thanks
KT
Hi Katie,
There are so many different codecs (coder/decoders) that could have been used for quicktime, it could be some obscure codec, especially something you got off of a file sharing program.
The formats floating around these networks are usually xvid or Divx.
Here is one for xvid

You can also try "Mplayer" , which is good at playing MOST formats if Quicktime won't play them.

And here is another player that will play some that Quicktime won't, it's called "VLC".

And finally.. you may find alot of WMV files out there, well, this cool program called "FLIP4MAC WMVPlayer" ($10, but gives a free trial - i just bought it and it's awesome) takes any WMV (Windows Media Video) file and plays it with Quicktime.
I have found it really handy because most of the video on websites like CNN for example only use WMV files, and they never played right.. until I bought this.

Let me know if these helped!
