I am looking for a backup utility that will do incremental backups of my whole HD daily. I have retrospect and a "one touch maxtor FW drive." I must be dense but I can not get the software setup to work properly.
I understand that there needs to be a copy of a catalogue on the source drive, then a file on the external drive that hold's backup data. I JUST CAN NOT GET IT SET UP to work properly, it makes no sense to me. It seems as if retrospect's directions are in a foreign language.
If I am going to rely so heavily on this being my main BU procedure I need to trust it. I can not even open the BU file that it generates on the maxtor drive.
Can you help. Or perhaps there is something better.
I am on a G5 using 10.4.5
Thanks,
Tim

Use SuperDuper 2.0. It's worth every penny of $27.95 and I use it for daily backups of four hard drives to four other ones. It works flawlessly and will also create bootable clones. The demo version will let you do backups, but not schedule them. I don't have any affiliation with the company that makes it (actually, don't know who dos), but you can download it from macupdate.com and versiontracker.com.

I used to use Retrospect also-great for a network of a couple of 200 computers, but too much hassle for me.

HTH and please let us know what happens. Thanks.
