I have had a Belkin Wireless Router for 3 years, has been great until about 2 months ago when it died. I complained and they said they'd send me a new one, since then ive just been using the basic adsl modem supplied by my provider.
The new router turned up, and now im having problems connecting to the net.
In "Network" in system pref's ive got the green light "Connected", on the router its showing the green lights.. ie, its seeing the ethernet cable, got the adsl connection, and even got a green light on for the "Connected to the internet", the belkin setup wizard on teh software is green for "Connected"..
BUT
When i go to the net, i get the "You are not connected to teh internet" on the screen?...
Ive rang my ISP and they dont support this kind of thing of couse, (I have got all the details i need from them already), so they advised me to ring belkin, which i did, and after a few troubleshooting questions from them he then advised me to contact APPLE.. great...
anyone got any ideas?.. its driving me up the wall!

David,
I'm asking these questions because you didn't say exactly what settings you have now...
Did you set up the router to do the PPPoE login? Did you set the computer to NOT do the PPPoE login?
Did you look at the setup page of the router to see if it has an IP address NOT in the 169.xxx range?
and try this: turn off (power off) everything, then turn on the modem by itself for 3-4 minutes, then turn on the router for a mminute, then start the Mac.

Sorry, will try explain a bit more.
I originally did PPPoE, but my Isp later said it had to be PPPoA, when i did that, it was then that the belkin wizard went green saying that i was "Connected".
Been through the setup pages etc, and been on their website at work today with the DNS codes to try that?..
The item im using is a combined Modem/Router in one.
Im just suspicious that maybe its some setting on teh setup wizard that ive missed?, or would it be in the apple system prefs - network?.. or would it be something else?.. someone said it might be a firwall that ive got switche din?.. but why would it stop it now?.. i mean, ive been using the crap adsl moden for the last few months, and prior to that i had a belkin router and had no problems?..

So what IP address do you have on the Mac > Network prefs? (This is a local-only IP address that no one can connect to from the internet.)
You should have Configure using DHCP set in Network prefs. That would automatically give you DNS servers, but it can't hurt to enter more.

its 192.168.2.2, the router is the same but 2.1
tried the other DHCP and the DNS to no avail, i tried few things last night, but got sick of it anmd plugged the old adsl modem in again that my isp supplied and it connected immediately.. so theres no problem with connecting..

Sorry, I'm out of ideas.
I'll send you back to the rest of the Techs.

David,
It sounds like you need to configure the Belkin router to allow your connection. It should have come with instructions on how to access the web based setup for the router. Do you have that? Did the Belkin tech walk you through the web setup?
While I do not use a Belkin router, I do have a Linksys which I believe is almost the same setup.
Let me know if you have that web url for the setup. If not, I can look it up for you and walk you through it.

Ive had a Belkin Router previously, so i pretty much know how teh setup works.. like i was saying ive got the green light at both ends... the network prefs in the system preferences, and the router is on green too... i will try just resetting the router, and start over..
thank you
