PROBLEM: Hardware
COMPUTER TYPE: IBM CLONE
MODEL: PII 200
RAM: 32meg
OS VERSION: Windows 95
SERVICE PACK:
DESCRIPTION:
I had a power outage with my PC on. Now when I boot up I get a BIOS screen with three options:
(1) Accept changes mand Exit
(2) Do nothing and exit
(3) Quit
I select option 2 and the computer boots to WIN 95 and my desktop normally appears.
The computer seem to run okay except that on shut down the floppy reads for about 5-6 seconds.
I'm afraid to touch my BIOS. How can I get my CPU to work as before sans the BIOS screen.
Is there a record of my original setup somewhere that I could refer to to ensure that I make no changes that would harm my CPU?
there is a software package on my computer called Config Safe. I think it takes periodic snapshots of my sysstem and saves them would that be of help?
Hi Stan! There is nothing in the BIOS that can really HURT your CPU, but it is not wise to go around changing settings if you are unaware of their function. However, I would recommend selecting option 3 (Quit). The floppy drive access is mostly likely caused by an antivirus program such as McAfee or Norton Antivirus.
Hope this helps! Feel free to contact me if you have any questions!
