Benny,

Bummer! What you are describing, however, is not a power surge but a power dip. And although it's a very good thing that you have your Mac attached to a surge protector it doesn't really offer much protection against these dips.
I don't know what your budget is like but you might want to consider buying a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply). This will definitely ward off any problems due to the flaky power system you describe in your building.
Hope this helps.

Benny,

Well, I guess it could be something else aside from the building's power supply. You didn't write what kind of Mac you have. Please let me know and we'll take it from there.

Benny,

I guess it could be - and I hate to write this - the eMac's internal power supply. At 2 years old it certainly shouldn't be but you never know.
Are there any other computers in this building? Do you know if anyone else has experienced the problem you described?

Benny,

In answer to your earlier query, you can get a UPS for anywhere between $50 on up. If you want to see some representative prices check out www.pricegrabber.com and enter UPS in the search field.
Before you go this route though I'd recommend finding out
from any of your unfriendly neighbors (!!!!) if anyone else is having this problem. It might not even be the whole building but just where your emac is.
Hope this helps.

the power dips have been happening on and off still, not every time but its anoying whenever they occur.although my computer works..does someone know how i can find this on the apple website??.
i dont think the power supply is shot after 2 yrs..everything looks great.
i dont know what to call it or if there is a link for this sort of thing..i want to read up and try to figure it out a little being that computer repair people charge a lot.and transporting an emac is a pain in the butt..thanks,Benny
