RAM Enhancer: None
OS Version: System 7.5.5
Description:
I have a terribly bloated systems folder 51.2MB, and I'm not sure what to get rid of. I draw a lot with Adobe Illustrator 7.0, and this takes up 59.7MB. Microsoft Word 6.0 takes up 15.6MB. With my Systems folder as huge as it is, I'm having difficulty doing anything. This seems like a new problem, but I haven't made any changes recently. I have a cach card that was set at 95 and is now at 128, supposedly optimal; virtual memory is off.
The biggest folders in my syst folder are control panels 7.6MB, extensions 15.6MB, fonts 9.8MB.
I have a 250MB PLI where I store most of my documents, and larger programs like Photoshop.
Is it just time to get a bigger hard drive? Can I configure things better? Why am I only having this problem now? How does one optimize?
Thanks for the advice. Eleni.

Hi Eleni and welcome to No Wonder!
I would suggest that you buy a larger hard drive - they are quite cheap. A 2GB costs $250.
Remember that newer versions of programs are getting bigger and bigger and inevitably you will require a larger drive.
To optimise a disk you require a disk utility software. The best is Norton Utilites. Optimising does not free up space, it organises the files on your drive so that they can be accessed quickly.
