Choosing which websites users can view
If you have an administrative account on a computer, you can control which websites users can view in Safari. Users will be able to view only those websites that are in the bookmarks bar. In addition, they will not be able to enter web addresses in the address field, use the Google search field, or modify any of the bookmarks.

Log in as the user, and open Safari.
Choose Safari > Preferences, click Security, and deselect "Enable parental controls."
Enter an administrator's name and password when asked.

Add bookmarks for the websites you want the user to visit in the Bookmarks Bar. Remove all other bookmarks from the Bookmarks Bar.
When you're done, choose Safari > Preferences, click Security, and select "Enable parental controls."

When you add a page to the Bookmarks Bar, the user will be able to visit any page on that site. For example, if you add a bookmark for http://www.apple.com/index.html, the user will be able to visit any page at apple.com, and not just index.html.

While you're still logged in as the user, try to access the sites you want that user to view, so you can make sure the user can still view them. For example, some web pages don't display content but transfer you automatically to a page on a different site. If you want a user to view that content, both sites (the original site and the site you're transferred to) must be in the bookmarks bar.

Parental controls does not prevent a user from viewing websites in other browsers. To prevent a user from using other web browsers, use the Accounts pane in System Preferences to set up the parental controls for Finder & System, and choose the applications the user can open.

Hi,
Yes I want to block the website from being viewed on the whole computer.
The parental controls in Safari are only in Safari v2 which is only on OS X 10.4.x. I heard of a way to do it but I haven't been able to find instructions.

Hello Evelyn,

Might try this from: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.h...n/ibr1080.html

Evelyn, launch Safari, then in the Menu click Help. The Help Menu has information to assist you.

Also, click here, it is the Apple/Support Safari Discussions board. You can post there for assistance also. Apple experts browse these boards daily...

Have a good holiday!

You can only use Parental Controls in Safari 2.0 and up. WHich I do not have. How can I block a website in an earlier version of safari?

I searched apple discussion boards already and I could not find instructions on how to do this.

Hi Evelyn,

I have searched and cannot locate information on how to block a paticular site from loading whether it's in the latest Safari or Safari v2.

What I will do though is send you post back in to the Open Pool where other tech support people can read it and hopefully help you out!

Happy Holidays!
Carolyn :-)

Hi Evelyn,

I'm Rishy and I'll try to help you setup Safari the way you want it.

First of all, If you are using an "older" version of Safari (prior to 2.0) it's not possible to block websites in Safari without using a third party plugin.

The plugin I'm talkng about is called CutX2. This plugin makes it possible to block adds, adult websites and content directly from Safari. Download the Installer from here and install the plugin according to the read-me file:

http://mac.sofotex.com/download-124795.html

After installation run Safari and follow the steps. When you're done, test it by surfing to a "blocked" website.

I hope this answers your question and solves your problem. If you need any further assistance, please don't hesitate to contact us again.

Hi Evelyn,

Yes this should also work on other website. In fact it works for any website you add to the blocked list.

Have you tried it yet?
