TICKET ARCHIVE -> Blue Screen On Startup

Hello - I am getting a blue screen (occasionally with an active arrow pointer) but it won't launch OSX Panther (10.3.8) on my iBook G4. Of course, I started having this problem a mere week after the expiration date of my Apple support (I didn't get the extended warranty) this makes me think there is some kind of timer in there set to self-destruct! I tried all the solutions on the Apple site but nothing seems to work. If you have any suggestions, please let me know. Thank you...

Steve

PS - I am a resonably computer-savvy individual.

Steve,

This sounds like an issue I had when I had lots of fonts loaded. Eventually the Finder launched, but it took close to five minutes.

I would try to be patient, Apple is not going to allow your Mac to self-destruct!

Even if the fonts are deactivated in 'Font Book', they still cause a long start-up time.

Let us know how it goes.

Hey thanks for the quick reply... although I wish my ibook would respond just as quickly... ;-)

No, I don't think that's it... now it has frozen on the Login Window Starting section as it loads up... I have been able to get it to boot and/or safe boot a couple of times, but it eventually just hangs and freezes, like it's doing now.

I took it to the Apple store and they think it's either the hard drive or the ATA connector to the hard drive... I am bringing it back to let them do fix whatever it is...

Here's another question for you. I am trying to upgrade my G4 Quicksilver tower to Panther, but every time I put in the install CD and restart, my Hyundai Imagequest L705 monitor turns blue and says "video mode not supported." Any clue how to work around this? Do I need a different monitor?

Steve,

Glad to hear.

As for the monitor question, I would suggest opening another question; I took the original ticket, and opening a new question helps us to keep track of closed tickets and allows others to answer.

I do not have a suggestion other than borrowing a different monitor that might handle the lower res. of 800x600 that I am guessing OSX is trying to start in.
