I have the latest EFI and SMC firmware and am running OSX 10.4.10 on an Intel macbook but everytime I launch Boot Camp, I keep getting a message to update my system software.
What can I do to get Bootcamp to run?

Hi,
The problem might be with the disk permissions. Try repairing them with Disk Utility and see if that helps.
Also, delete the bootcamp.plist file by searching for it in Finder.
Do any other applications crash or not open? When did you start noticing this problem? Have you installed or downloaded freeware or shareware or anything of peculiar sort recently?
Sincerely,

Vishad,
Repaired Permissions.
Neither Finder nor Spotlight could find bootcamp.plist
Everything else seems to be working normally. Safari hangs occasionally but have not had a problem doing anything. Have parrallells runnning Kubuntu in another profile but its not active at the time that I am trying to log into Bootcamp from my main profile. Have Hamachi for participating in my work VPN but outside of my office, iLife and iWork apps nothing heavy duty. Pandora Jam, iToner, XTorrent, Acquisition - that sort of stuff. Again, all of them are quit completely before I tried Bootcamp.

Dale,
1. Downloaded latest Bootcamp from the Apple site.
2. "Boot Camp Assistant cannot open.
You must update your system software before using this setup assistant."
3. Tried Restarting. One of the first things I tried. Not sure how to trigger Safe Boot.

I downladed the combo updater and ran it. Then tried to run boot camp after the machine restarted. No dice. Looked for Bootcamp.plist like earlier mentioned. Nothing. Then I restarted in Safe Boot and tried running Bootcamp and looking for the plist file there figuring Spotlight might be hiding something that was system specific. No go there either.
this is really wierd especially about updating my system software. What do I do now?

Hi,
Okay, well it seems as though some of your system files might have been overwritten or erased or paths changed. It's not a big deal if you still have your original OS install DVD. You'll need to pop that into your computer, restart, and then allow the computer to boot from the install DVD. Choose to install the OS. A dialog box will appear, when you select install in the install options window, and will warn you that if you continue the install everything will be erased unless you perform an Archive and Install.
You'll need to select the Archive and Install option on the main HD. MAKE SURE IT IS THE ARCHIVE AND INSTALL OPTION. If you don't select his option your hard drive will be erased and overwritten.
Once the install is complete you can log back onto your admin account and see if everything checks out. This should fix your problem.
The following link will direct you to the Apple Support Webpage where you can get step-by-step instructions how to Archive and Install:

Vishad,
Did Backup. And then reinstalled with CD. Archived and restored user through the Install cycle. When I logged back in, it immediately told me there were software updates available including the Combined update to 10.4.10.
Finished that and restarted again. Ran bootcamp. Gave me error. I figured it was because it was from prior to the reinstall so I trashed that and downloaded bootcamp and tried again.
Still nothing. same error message.

Okay, so Bootcamp won't launch or can you not restart into Windows using Bootcamp?
If it's the former, go directly to the Apple Downloads page and locate the most recent Bootcamp firmware update, and install it. Use Safari to download the update, and then install.
If it's the latter issue then do the following:
1) Start up into OS X and insert your Windows XP install CD
2) Restart and hold Option/alt key, choose the Windows CD
3) Once the blinding blue screen has come up with options to install, press R to Repair a windows installation
4) F8 to agree, then choose the installation to Repair (should be just one)
5) Let it do it's thang
6) When the computer restarts, hold Option/alt again but this time choose the Windows Hard Drive to start up from
7) The XP installation should continue with yet another lovely blue screen
8) Again, when the computer restarts, hold Option/alt but choose the Windows Hard Drive
9) Windows should appear with desktop icons and programs intact, just try the stuff you need to work and see if they do!
10) Go to
http://www.update.microsoft.com/wind...=en&IsMu=False
and fixed the problems updating XP

Vishad,
This is not a new case. It refers to an existing thread where I could not get Bootcamp to work on my Macbook.

I see, so you haven't been able to run Bootcamp at all? At this point I really can't recommend any thing more without suggesting you completely reinstall your OS. That's the very last resort option. Is it possible for you to call Apple Support?
