Description:
I have a creaking old PM 6100. I find Communicator 4.5 slow and cumbersome and I don't really want all the bells and whistles.
Explorer seems faster but this might just be wishful thinking! Is there any browser for the Mac which is more compact, streamlined or faster (like the Opera for PC) or would there be any real advantage in going back to an earlier version of Navigator or Explorer?
Many thanks in anticipation of your thoughts

PS Truly brilliant service by the way

Mike,
I agree that all of the extras with Communicator are a bit much. I used it for a very long time and went in search of a better browser myself. Alas, there are none out there for the Mac that are near as capable as the Netscape and Microsoft products. Maybe soon, but for now they are the best.
Explorer 4.5 for the Mac uses only 6.5 Mb of RAM to run. Comapre this to the 15Mb plus to run Communicator and you can see which is the best in that area. I have been using Explorer 4.5 for the past month as well as Communicator, evaluating which is better for my use. I find that Explorer is far and away my favorite. It is faster, uses less memory and has some great features like print preview, and it is integrated with Sherlock if you plan to upgrade to OS 8.5 in the future.
Outlook Express 4.5 also runs with very low memory at around 4.5 Mb. So when you have both Explorer and Outlook open at the same time they still use less memory than Communicator does.
I hope this helps you out a little. Feel free to drop me a line if you have any other questions. Thanks for using No Wonder.
