i read about how to burn a dvd, but how do you burn it after? do i need additional software or can i use the stock burning software that came with my macbook?

What kind of data will you be burning to a DVD? music? your backup files? a DVD movie? Something else?
The OS X built-in software will often do what you need, but additional burning software often will give you other choices with a disk. You should specify what uses you need...
