i've been told this is possible
but i can't find info on how to use dvd studio pro
to burn to an external drive
do you just need to have a drive plugged in
and then you can burn to it
instead of the built in apple drive

my work wants to be able to author blu ray disks in house
and has asked me to find out what we need to buy

right now we are using final cut studio
on power mac g5 towers

Looks like right now - 2 solutions for authoring Blue Ray DVDs on the Mac.
Toast 9 w/ HD/BR plugin (about $100)
http://www.roxio.com/enu/products/to.../overview.html

Or, Adobe Encore CS3 - part of the Production Premium suite ($1,700)

thanks for the info

after looking at other posts
and quite a bit of reading the studio pro manual
it looks to me like i can burn the blu ray with what i have
besides buying the blu ray burner

when you first create a new project
if you go to the inspector window
under the general tab you can choose HD DVD
then under the disk/volume tab you can choose blue lasor
which will change the capacity of the project from 4.7 to 15GB
so you can import the HD files into the project

then when you're ready to burn the dvd
if you click on the build/format icon on the top bar
a dialogue box pops up and under the general tab
at the bottom it asks what output device you want to use
and that is where you can pick the external burner

since i don't have the burner
this is all just a theory
but i've read other post saying it works
