I have a shopping list of hardware and software items I'd like to purchase soon. I'm having trouble finding the perfect site to find all of it -- none of it is very obscure. What are some good ones? Also, what are some recommended sites for hardware and software reviews?

Reviews are a joke. Don't trust them. They are so subjective. Get quality brand names and you will not have many problems.
Ask others about their experience with a product or post your question here. Much more reliable. Or join a Mac user group for some quality feedback. I am a member of the Portland Mac users group. They are cheap and full of good resourses.
There is a free app called MacReporter (get it at Version Tracker) and you can install feeds from Dealsontheweb.com, dealnews.com and dealmac.com (dealnews and dealmac are the same web site but have some different listings).
Look at the listings every day and you will get some great deals.
Don't get cutting edge stuff as it is way more expensive. And it will only be cutting edge for a few months anyhow and then it is just average stuff.
There is no perfect site. Go for the deals and save money.

I was talking more about external firewire drives, firewire 800 hubs, a wireless mouse -- stuff that I realize isn't cheap, but, that I'm just looking for a good source which has everything of this sort that's compatible with mac. Thought maybe you had a preference among the obvious online candidates...

My response was for the stuff you mentioned.
I get all my hardware that way. Many times you can get a HD for half of what you would pay anywhere else.
I don't have a favorite. I loook for price for a known product.
The industry calls people like me bottom feeders.
