Your MacBook has a 'mini-DVI' connector.
You need one of Apple's Mini-DVI to DVI, or Mini-DVI to VGA adapters.
You need to know which connector your projector can use. Some can use either VGA or DVI. Some projectors only have one type of connection.
If you are in Atlanta, you can go to an Apple store there, and just purchase the adapter that you need. There's 2 in the metro Atlanta area, and two more within a reasonable driving distance.
If you are not sure which adapter you need. you may want to be safe and get one of each....
