I want to use a file recovery program to search for deleted photos on my digital camera, however when I connect it there is no removable volume for it.
System profiler detects it as a USB device, but no folder or icon exists for it...
Thanks

You might need some specialist software, such as this - http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/20313

You may also need to remove the card from the camera, and plug the card into a card reader for that recovery.

thanks, but what I really need to know is how to make a removable volume icon on the desktop for my camera? For instance, when I plug in a zipdrive (by usb) a volume appears on the desktop...why wont my camera do the same?

A USB device is not necessarily mountable.
Mounting on the desktop is provided (or not provided) by the camera's firmware. For example, my Sony camera always mounts on the desktop. My Canon will not.

If you use a card reader, your camera memory card should mount on the desktop.
