Hi,
My QuarkPDF.dylib Xtension for Passport 6.5 seems to have become corrupted. Re-installing hasn't helped. Does anyone have a new version they can send me? Or any suggestions? Quark works fine otherwise, except I can't make PDF's from Quark any more. I'm using OSX 10.4.6. Thanks in advance.

Hi, many thanks for this. I downloaded it, but it's turned into a Unix Executable File instead. I think OSX 10.4.6 is doing this to certain files. Does anyone know how I can fix this?

Does the fact that the icon and/or descriptor of the file change cause any harm to its functioning?
earthsaver - May 26, 2006 - 9:11 pm
Also, does anything change if you delete the PDFFilter preferences file?
RobA - May 29, 2006 - 5:06 pm
Yes, something does change: I can no longer make PDFs direct from Quark files. As this is an important function for me, I need to get this fixed ASAP.
I tried deleting the PDFFilter prefs file, but noticed no change.

Howdy! Send me your email and I'll forward the file to you, compressed with stuffit to avoid corruption.

Hi Nathanial,
many thanks for your offer; send it to me at robert.agasucci(at)virgin.net
I'll let you know what happens!

What happened in the end?
RobA - Jun 10, 2006 - 9:01 am
Nothing. Nobody sent me a file, or could answer my printing to PDF problem. I got the same response from the Apple and Quark forums too. I still have the issue. As a workaround, I've switched to InDesign for new projects, but I still have one book set in Quark that I need to output to PDF, and I can't open this in InDesign as it will reflow, leaving me the too-awful-to-contemplate task of retypesetting and kerning the whole thing.

I sent you the file to your email address. Are you saying you never received it? It is a large file, about 11MB.
RobA - Jun 10, 2006 - 4:10 pm
No, sorry, I never received anything. I don't know why. I checked my inbox in case it was full, but it's fine.
Natobasso - Jun 11, 2006 - 10:24 am
Does your email have an attachment size limit?
RobA - Jun 11, 2006 - 5:49 pm
I think it must do; maybe try Stuffing it?
Natobasso - Jun 29, 2006 - 5:08 pm
Did the file I sent get to you? (Sent it again stuffed, I think)

Shall I close this thread? Problem worked out?
RobA - Jul 23, 2006 - 4:21 pm
Hi, No I didn't receive anything, I'm afraid. As for the original problem (Quark 6.5 stopped printing to PDF when I upgraded to OSX 10.4.6), it isn't solved. I hoped upgrading to 10.4.7 might have solved this, given that a lot of people seem to have had similar problems, and that Apple seemed aware of it, but 10.4.7 hasn't solved it either. I got round it by going back to 9.2 on a back-up drive and using Quark 4.1 instead. Apparently Quark 7 is good, but I can't afford it yet (if ever!). Think I'll stick to Adobe InDesign from now on.
Anyway, thanks for your help. It was appreciated, even though my problem didn't get solved.

are you still getting the error saying you need the file or is it still just not printing?
RobA - Jul 24, 2006 - 9:44 am
I can use Quark just fine in all aspects except creating a PDF. I can create, save and print a Quark doc just fine. I just can't export to PDF anymore. I could do this before I upgraded from OSX 10.4.5. I can't make a PDF from any Quark doc using any other software like Acrobat either. I can make PDF's from InDesign though.

Download the QuarkPDF_dylib.zip file from my website:
http://www.flikworld.com/robert
Let me know if it helps. The file is for my Quark 6.1...don't delete the original QuarkPDF_dylib.zip file, just in case the new one I'm giving you doesn't fix the issue.

Woo Hoo!!!! It worked!!!! It's icon still changed to a Unix Executable, so at first I didn't hold out much hope, but I exchanged it for my original file and tested it on an old Quark doc, and it worked!! I still have no idea what went wrong with the original, but I'm absolutely over the moon to get this functionality back after so long of banging my head in frustration on the desk trying everything else I could think of. I'm so happy I don't know what to say. Many, many thanks indeed....
best regards,
Rob
