Sometimes when I download photos to iPhoto, they end up being huge. I understand that is because of the way I have the settings on the camera. But once I get them into iPhoto, can I make them take up less space or less bytes without cropping them. I would like to import one into a website and it only allows for photos to be so big and mine is too big. If it is possible for to make it smaller, would you please tell me how to do so.
Thanks,
Ragnes

Hi and welcome to macosx.com
I would -well, that's why I do- keep the original big photo within iPhoto, in case of you need the original, untouched photo for being added to a slideshow or a movie.
But I would degrade the image through tools like SmallImage, GraphicConverter -any image editing tools- to create a .GIF or .PNG file before uploading it to a website or using it in a HTML page
ImageWell

is a good tool for this goal

Thanks, Philippe. I did download ImageWell. It downloaded without a problem much to my pleasure. Now I have another question. How do I get the iPhoto to the ImageWell in order to make it with less bytes? I'm sure it's fairly simple, but I can't figure out how to do it.
Thanks,
Ragnes

(1) drag the photo from iPhoto to the Desktop; this make a copy; the photo within iPhoto remains unchanged
(2) drag the photo of the desktop to the imageWell icon to open it (or launch iMageWell and open the photo with the File/Open)
When you have manipulated the photo with iMageWell -and resaved it-... that's the photo of the Desktop... you can send this photo to a Website...
So, this is my manual way of working; I do not use any plug-in -Flickr..or so- in iPhoto to send photo to websites
So, if the image of the desktop is ok for you...so, if you want to replace it in iPhoto, discarding for ever the original one:
(1) browse you iPhotot to find the original..the library, not rollers or list: delete it from the library
(2) drag back to iphoto you modified image from the desktop
In imagewell, you resise it and/or reduce quality to obtain a lower size; then you can send it to your idisk or ftp website (see Imagewell preferences)
The more complet tool is GraphicConverter; you can use it without license, you'll simply a 20s waiting splash screen when started; but GC is very powerfull

Just a comment: you understand... I always work on a copy of my original photo I have in iPhoto -and as a backup on a DVD-..I do not trust at all iPhoto for all the image manipulations and the way it stores/retrieves/handles modified copy of photos
