My iChat preferences panes have vanished. I get the "message" pane only. Now my buddy list has vanished and the "help" section says I need to change my privacy pane. But now I have no privacy pane - when I open preferences, I only see the "message" pane, nothing else. Any ideas?

Hello,

I'm hoping this is just a corrupted iChat preference file and here's how to fix it.

Locate this file: com.apple.ichat.preferences
Here's the path: MacintoshHD>Users>Library>Preferences. Open the Preferences folder, locate that file, drag it to the Trash, empty the Trash, reboot.
Try iChat now.

Also... run Disk Utility. It's located in your Applications>Utility folder. Launch DU, select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, then click Repair Permissions. Only takes a few minutes to run. Quit DU.

See if these suggestions do the trick and thanks for choosing Macosx.com!

Carolyn :-)
