Knowledge Level: I'm New!
Problem: Hardware
Computer Type: Apple
Model: 7300/200
RAM: 32meg
RAM Enhancer: Virtual Memory
OS Version: System 7.6.1

Description:
I tried to backup by draging my HD Icon to a Syquest drive, but I got the error "file can't be found". My HD is partitioned, so I tried to copy the problematic folder from 1 part to another, as well as copying to the SyQuest drive, same problem. FileBuddy copied more of the files, but not all, in both cases. Sometimes I got a -37 error message, sometimes -43. I tried everything TechTool Pro's got to test disks and files - nothing. Norton came up empty, too. Virex says OK, as does MacCheck. Techtool pro deleted the desktop & rebuilt it, but no go. Most of my files can be copied, it's more of a problem when they are in folders; if I open the folder in question, select all and copy the files, it USUALLY works, but not always.
Help, I can;t even reliably backup, so I can re-initialize the disk!!

Ian,
My name is Cheryl and I will be helping you. Backing up the enitre hard drive just by copying it to a disk is tricky. That is where Retrospect Express comes in. Using the copy feature on the OS does take up memory and time. That is where you are getting your errors when trying to do the entire drive. Get yourself Retrospect Express and install it and let it do your back up. Keep in mind that some programs will have to be installed from the installer not from a back up. Some programs are very tempermental.
Let me know if I can be of more assistance.
Cheryl
