Try to install legal leopard OS on a iMac 17" 1.2 GHz with 744 Mb RAM. After a clean install it gives an error of can't check BSD files. Can't install Leopard on this computer! Please contact Apple! What to do?
ps Apple never helps with this so i'm not trying to call there support. Grt.Barry

A clean install means an Erase and Install, so the OS X install is completely new. Is that what you are doing?

You need to be more specific about the wording of the error. If it is 'could not validate the contents of BSD _ ', etc, then you may have a damaged install disk (try carefully wiping the disk, and try the install again), or that problem can be bad memory or your optical drive.
If you have no important data on the hard drive now, I would suggest that you should choose 'Erase and Install' again.
The Leopard installer is quite sensitive to marginal hardware, and easily gives up.
Make sure that you do not have other storage devices attached to your iMac when you install. Disconnect everything except for your mouse and keyboard, and power, of course. An ethernet cable will probably be OK, too.
I think you are generalizing when you say that Apple never helps, so if you suspect that your disk is bad, you should call Apple for a replacement.
