Friends,
I'm using Apple PowerBook G4 running OSX Tiger. I've got a FantomDrive FireWire 250G drive that I suddenly can't mount. I was able to mount it this morning, but I ejected it once and then the next time I tried to mount it the disk was "unreadable."
Disk Utility verify and repair attempts yield the error message: "Catalog file entry not found for extent." Meanwhile the normally blue power and activity light on the disk blinks an ominous red during attempts to mount it.
The info on the disk is extremely important as my last backup is a week old. Ironically, I was preparing to back it up when it would no longer mount. I've read good things about DiskWarrior. What else can I try?
Many thanks,
Chris
DW is your best bet; you can also try Data Rescue II. DW should be able to fix this; you may have to try running it multiple times, as it may say it can't, or stop at certain stages. Don't give up. If DW can't fix the drive and the files are vital, I would probably contact one of the data recovery services like DriveSavers and not try to repair the drive further. DriveSavers claims that running too many different programs like DW/Data Rescue II makes their job more difficult, and their charges rise proportionately. Be prepared to pay a lot ($500 and up) for data recovery services. I hope you won't need to use them.
HTH and please let us know what happens. Have a safe and happy Holiday.
Many, many thanks! I purchased DiskWarrior and it did the trick in about three clicks! I very much appreciate your help and hope your Holidays were happy, safe and memorable as well.
