I've just set up pure-ftpd as my ftp server and connecting and uploading via an FTP client works fine. I can also connect via a web browser and download fine. However, when I try to upload via web browser I get
The item "foo" could not be moved because "username@##.##.#.###" cannot be modified.
I have set the folder permissions to "Read and Write" for user, group and other.
Any idea what I'm missing?
Thanks,
Ian
Hello Ian,
Thank you for visiting Macosx.com! My name is Richard, I will be your support technician and assisting you with your question.
I recently installed pure-ftpd myself

. To answer your question; most web browsers are read-only so you can only view & download files but not upload using them. The exceptions I've found are Internet Explorer on Windows or FireFox also has an FTP add-on. When I tried my server using Firefox it wouldn't connect through the graphic interface for some reason. Yet it displays fine through the read-only method.
To upload you'll need to use a proper FTP client. I personally use Transit & it works fine as does CyberDuck. I've heard good things about Fetch for OSX too.
I hope this helps to answer your question. If you require any further help or information feel free to reply, or e-mail me at the address below.
