I posted this previously and took advice to download Divx Player and converters, but still when I go to view the files they are digitized and screwy. Any clues on how to get those files to play properly? So that they can be used in iMovie and FCP?
Thanks,
Geoff...
Hi and welcome to macosx.com
About watching...
Download VLC (
www.videolan.org), the best and powerfull video player for the Mac. Try to use this tool to view.
If, with VLC, the video is digitized and/or screwy:
*digitized: the .avi has been too highly compressed, which results in a disrepaired state of the content; so, no chance to go back to a higher quality.
*screwy: the codec used for compression requires too much power from your PB to decode it and to have a good display. Well, viewing your config,I do not think that you're in this situation.
So, for weekly viewing .avi files from Windows world, my way of working: if VLC shows a digitized/screwy/choppy film -> I throw away the file
About iMovie..
Most of the avi can be imported in iMovie -well, from what I read on the Web, I do not use iMovie of FCP- if you have QTpro and other codecs like Flip4mac or Divx.
In my case, I convert .avi files into QT format or DVD through, either Toast7 (commercial) or ffmpegx (
http://homepage.mac.com/major4/) for esoteric codec or specific output format
But there are also other tools for conversion:
