TICKET ARCHIVE -> Cannot delete old Configurations from Internet Connect
Sperry23 - Mar 17, 2006 - 9:12 am
I switched ISPs and want to delete the old/dead Configurations from my list. I cannot edit or delete the first two Configurations in the Internet Connect App. Both are greyed out and the +/- buttons have no affect.
How do I delete/edit these first 2 configurations?

Hello,
The easiest way to make Internet Connect clear of all your old ISP accounts is to trash the preference file.
Go to Home>Library>Preferences. Now go to the View menu and select by list as this will put everything in alpha order making it easier to find files.
Scroll down and trash the following:
com.apple.internetconfig.plist
com.apple.internetconfigpriv.plist
com.apple.internetconnect.plist
Now you can log out of your computer or restart. Then empty the trash. Open Internet Connect and enter in your new information.

Hello,
I need to explain that deleting the preference files does not require you to reinstall anything. What this does is remove the information that Internet Connect is remembering. Once the files are trashed and the trash emptied, you can enter in your new information with ease.

I searched the entire machine using the spotlight function. There is no folder named "home".
The files you list are in 2 places under both harddrive>users>*username*>library>preferences
and
harddrive>users>*username*>library>safe preferences
Based on your instructions, I trashed all iterations of the files, shut down, restarted, then emptied the trash.
When I started Internet Connect, the same settings were visible. Searching turned up the same files with the current date.
I repeated the proceedure. Step by Step. After restarting the computer, I searched and found no indication of the files you listed anywhere on the hard drive--if the finder search function is to believed.
When I launched Internet Connect again, the same settings and information was there and the files had reappeared with the date/timestamp showing the time that I launched the app.
Any other ideas?

Sperry,
Home is not the name of a specific folder. In the Go menu at the top of your screen you can get to several different folders. Home is listed which is your username folder. I am sorry for the confusion.
Open System Preferences. (the light switch in the dock)
From the View menu, choose Network.
Choose Internal Modem from the Show pop-up menu (or the "Configure" pop-up menu prior to Mac OS X 10.1). If your computer does not have a built-in modem, select your external modem.
Click the PPP tab.
Type the information your ISP gave you into the matching fields. Your username goes in the Account Name field. If you want the other users of this computer to use the same connection, select the "Save password" option.
Click the TCP/IP tab.
Choose either PPP or Manually from the Configure pop-up menu, as instructed by your Internet service provider.
If the old information is there, you can delete it from each field.
Once this is done, go to Internet Connect and you should be able to delete the old configurations and see the new configuration you put in the Network pane. If any information is missing - type it in.
Let me know if this corrects your issue.

Changing the preferences via the System Preferences panel worked.
Thank you.
