Knowledge Level: Intermediate

Problem: Other
Computer Type: Macintosh
Model: Performa 6300CD
RAM: 16meg
RAM Enhancer: Virtual Memory
OS Version: MacOS 8.1

Description:
I recently installed OS 8, and after 5 days of progressively worsening problems, my hard drive crashed. Fortunately, I had purchased and extended warranty, and now have a 2.4 GIG hard drive on my Permorma 6300CD. Also, I had backed everything up before installing OS 8, so all I lost was about a week's worth of e-mail, except for one thing.

Now to my problem. When I got the new hard drive back, I reinstalled all of my original software, which included Quicken 5, which I never used. I remove it, along with the other old programs that I never/no longer used, then reinstalled the OS 8. I then started reinstalling the other software I had on this computer, including Quicken 6. All installations went fine with no glitches, until I tried to put my Quicken data back into the Quicken program. I get a message that tells me that the "resource map is damaged. Don't worry, Quicken will repair it."

When I click OK, however, I get a message telling me that it cannot be repaired. I've tried everything I can think of to try to open the file, copy it, transfer it to a new disk, but nothing works. How can I recover my data?

Carol,
My name is Cheryl and I will be helping you today. I suggest you get Norton Utlities or TechToolPro and run the program on the entire hard drive. Then run the recovery and select the file from your old version quicken. It could be that those files were damaged before your major crash and is causing the problem now.
If the Disk Doctor can not fix those files, I am sorry to say that you will not be able to use them at all.
Keep me posted on how you do.
Cheryl
