Hi,

I was wondering if anyone knew if there is a compatible mac driver for the canon lbp-1120 laser shot printer.

Its new, cheap, small and WHITE so i bought it, but i can't get it to work at all, there is no gimp driver and i have searched the linux printeing site to no avail.

There is a linux driver availible as an rpm file could i use this somehow?

Thanks for your help

Ross

p.s unless you are taking code it shouldn't be over my head.

According to the specs sheet for this printer, it appears to be a software-driven printer. The operation of the printer is performed by software on your computer, which is in addition to drivers that may be needed.
You can interpret 'software-driven' as 'Windows-only'.
This is the situation with some low-end printers. Some can only be used on a Windows system, and seems that you have found one of those.
It's a little late for you, but I tell people all the time to research your purchase, especially for printers and scanners. Often when there is no mention of Mac on the outside of the box, then there is no Mac support. There is some great exceptions to this theory, but, in general, no mention of Mac support on the box, don't buy it with the expectation of " I'll figure it out later ", especially on cheaper printers, this can be a Windows-only dead end.
Sorry for the rant, but I have this same conversation fairly often.
Good Luck with your printer search !

Thanks for your reply,

I have found a driver for CAPT the lbp-810 uses it as well as the 1120.

However it is a linux driver. I thought that you could use linux drivers on mac os x using CUPS. The file that i downloaded is a unix executable file, that also came with a PPD details of which can be found here:

http://www.boichat.ch/nicolas/capt/

Is there a correct folder that the PPD must be in to utilise it?

Canon also produce a RPM file for this printer, I have extracted this under mac os x but was unable to find anything useful. Information about this driver can be found at:

http://software.canon-europe.com/sof...386.asp?model=

I bought the printer for use wioth my PC as well so at least i don't have a paperweight. But i prefer my mac and would be greatful if anyone could help me utilise this driver.

If it is possible to work together to solve this problem, it would also solve many other peoples print problems.

Thanks
Ross
