Hi there

I can't seem to capture images from a Canon XL1S camera to my Macbook Pro running Leopard via FireWire. Looked at a few forums. Is it really not compatable with the Mac at all? There don't seem to be any drivers available Anyway I thought FireWire just "worked"?

Kind regards

Darren

Drivers are still required but unlike some printers they're pretty standardized among still and video cameras. What application are you trying to capture to? (iMovie, Final Cut, iPhoto, etc.).

Hi Ben

Thanks for the quick reply. Well, here's the thing. I've got a job in where I need to use Adobe Flash Media Encoder 2 to capture a live feed from a Canon XL1s. Since found out that they don't do a version for OSX. To use the app I had to put Windows XP on my Macbook Pro for work (against my better judgement) and used Parallells. Turns out that Parallels doesn't recognise the FireWire ports on the Mac and that's why the XL1 doesn't work. As an aside, would Windows XP installed with Bootcamp recognise the FireWire ports? Academic really as I only have a copy of XP Service Pack 1 which I could upgrade with Parallels to SP2 but Bootcamp won't. You need a full SP2 disc. I have managed to get an old Canon XL1 working with iMovie no probs. However this doesn't solve my Flash Media Encoder 2 prob. Are there any OSX apps that capture live video stream and convert it to a Flash file? Thanks for your help. Regards. Darren

I imagine Boot Camp would see FireWire ports properly and I'm surprised Parallels hasn't figured that out yet. But Windows on Mac and video capture are not my specialties, so I don't know where to send you now. Hopefully another tech is more familiar.
