What software are you using to burn disks?
Have you tried other software, such as Toast, or your Disk Utility?

Have you tried a different brand of DVD R , or tried burning at a lower speed?
Have you tried a DVD+R or DVD-R (whichever type might work better for you)

Let me know how it goes...

Have you tried a DVD drive cleaning disk? You can find a variety of those at any big office supply store. It may help - and good to have one of those disks available, even if it doesn't help...
If different media, or changing speeds doesn't help, then there's not much you can do. If you are in warranty/AppleCare, get the superdrive replaced. It's not something you should tackle yourself.
