Hey, ive been cloaning with SuperDuper to an External FW drive without problems, and the drive mounts every time i get to desktop, and also appears as an option from within starup disk in system prefs, and will boot from there is asked to.
Thing is, it wont show up when i choose to boot with the option key at startup, no matter how many times i refresh. And also in Target disk mode from startup with the (T) key, it refuses to mount. I havent tried unplugging and plugging it back in while at the startup bit where it tells me to choose a disk, because i didnt know how wise it was to unplug and replug at this stage.
Also, unrelated, im getting a "you dont have user privilages" error when i insert blank CD and DVD, and the eject button needs to be held down alot longer than it used to, to force the disk out

Help appreciated !!

When you performed your original clone operation with SuperDuper, did you choose to make it a bootable copy? That's an essential step, which is quite clear (in my opinion) in Carbon Copy Cloner. To confirm the ability to boot to the external drive, startup normally and go to the Startup Disk preference pane to see whether it is even available as a startup disk.

How much longer do you have to hold the Eject key? How long before? OS X 10.4.9 added about half a second to the hold time. Are you experiencing something else?

If you create a new user in Accounts preferences and log into it, do you have the same privilege error for blank discs? Might try repairing permissions with Disk Utility.
