Is it possible to capture the OS X user ID in a web page (ASP/PHP/whatever)?
You can do it for Microsoft or Novell UserIDs in Windows machines and we use this feature to effect a single sign-on for our intranet. I would like to try and do the same for our Mac users.

No can do - at least not easily

It's possible under windows because of some kind of active-x script that makes it possible to get IE to interact with Windows.

And ASP and PHP are serverside scripting languages that you can't send to the browser. On the browser side you are only able to run Java-applets, JavaScript and possibly AppleScript

It might be possible to make a Java applet or an AppleScript and authorise these sufficiently to make what you want possible, but I'm not sufficiently well versed to provide the necessary information.
