My iBook G4 hard drive failed two weeks after the one year warranty ran out. I sent it to Apple, who assured me they would return it with the data on it. However, I paid $300 and Apple returned it with a new hard drive and had lost all my data. Don't trust Apple!
Now I'm trying to restore some of my data from a CD I burned several months ago. I have used this CD-RW several times. But now when I put my CD into the computer with the new hard drive (and possibly a slightly newer operating system), the CD does not pop up on the desktop.
I have used an external drive and had the same problem. I can open other CDs.
I ran Disk Utilities. This lets me see the names of the sessions I've burned and there seems to be a large file saved, but I still can't make the CD mount.
How can I make it work so I can access my data?
And what is my recourse against Apple for telling me I'd get my data back and then tossing out my old hard drive without even attempting data recovery?
Burned out mac user,
