Hi I have a load (about 100) .tiff files I want changing to .jpg files. I know how to do it one file at a time, is there a way using the software I have (macosx 10.4.8) to change them all at once thus saving me a fair bit of time.

Much apreciated.
Kind regards
George

I suggest creating a simple workflow in Automator. You can do this with a Get Finder Items or a Copy Finder Items action before Preview's Change Type of Images action. The latter will preserve your originals and change the file type of their copies.

Hi George,

There sure is, its free and the good news is you already have it.Its called automator and it is designed for the very purpose.

You will find it in your applications folder. Open it up and i will talk you through doing what you asked.

- First backup the files you want to change incase something happens to go wrong

-Secondly highlight the files you want to change and drop/drag them into the large grey portion of the automator screen (the right hand side).

-Now on the left hand side of automator, in the applications section, you will find a list of apps that have automator actions. Look through the list and choose 'Preview' app. A list of actions for preview should now of appeared in the central portion of the screen.

- Find the action 'Change Type of Images' and double click it.

- You should be prompted to add/dont add or cancel. In this case (if you have backed your files up) choose 'dont add'.

-Now a waorkflow box should of appeared underneath your specified finder items on the right (the list of files to change). From the drop down menu here, simply select your required type (in this case jpeg) and hit the 'Run' icon at the top right of the screen.

-It might take a few seconds or minutes depending on how fast your mac runs and you will hear a sound to say they are done.

-et voila!

You can now save this action if it is a task you often have to complete. Im a music maker so im forever renaming/resizing hundreds of files at a time and this app has saved me hours upon hours of those boring long winded tasks.

Have a go with this (remembering to back up 1st until you are comfortable using the app) and let me know how you get on. If you have any questions at all dont hesitate to ask.

Best regards
Tom
