Fredda,
My name is Cheryl and I will be helping you.
1. To stop that message go to your system folder>Extension folder and drag the Global Fax file to the extensions(disabled) folder. Then go to your preference folder (in the system folder) and find the Global Fax pref file and trash it.
Now, go to restart and after you see the happy mac hold down the option and command(apple) keys until you get the dialog box asking if you wish to rebuild your desktop. Click on okay/rebuild. Those messages should disappear.

2. The x through the cd burner extension is the indication that the cd burner is not on. Before you turn on your computer turn on all your additional add ons. Then the x will not appear. If you are not going to use the burner... you will see the x through it. This also happens with Zip/Jaz drives that are not turned on before the start up of the computer.
I hope this helps you. Keep me posted if you need more help.
Cheryll
