Description:
Is it possible to compact files on a Mac and have them openable on a Windows PC? And vice versa?

We are transfering very large files and are looking for a common zip, stuff or compacting methodology.

Michael,

Yes you can but some methods are time consuming.
The easiest is using a zip plus drive but if you have to do it using floppy disks, you need to encode the file as a binhex file (using stuffit), open it in a text editor like bbedit (the lite version is free) and divide it up into floppy disk size chunks.
You can then 'rebuild' it on the pc using a text editor (I am not sure if notepad will do the job...I have used 'arachnophilia').
When you divide it up and rebuild it, it is important to do so exactly as it was created.
After the file has been rebuilt and saved just drop it on stuffit expander on the pc!
