I am trying to completely uninstall a corrupted copy of aol so that I might reinstall a fresh copy. I thought I had uninstalled everything aol related, but when I try to install a fresh copy the installation process freezes up. Please help!

Hi Timmothy
Open Activity Monitor in your Utility folder. If anyhting AOL related is running, quit it from the menu bar of that window.
Download and run
EasyFind on your System. It will find also search invisible files. Trash anything AOL related from that window.

Hi Bob,
Thanks for responding so quickly! I followed every step, rebooted and did a repair permissions as well, and aol still will not reinstall. It freezes up immediately! Any other steps I should try?
Thanks,

Trash the AOL you've downloaded and then do another search and trash anything you find for it.
Then download AOL again and try installing.

Hey Bob,
Tried that also, and even got a new aol cd installation disc and tried that as well, it will not install. It stops at the screen when it is showing 187 items to install, and then just does not repsond. I am trying to avoid contacting aol for help since I no longer am a paying member, and it seems crazy to have to pay for a new membership just to have them answer this one question, but I might have to bite the bullet and resubscribe for this.
Thanks,
Tim

Trash all of AOL again, and try installing with a direct download from AOL here;

Hello Bob,
I did what you suggested and it still freezes up! So the bit the bullet and paid thd monthly fee to AOL to once again have their technical support help. A lady in India tried to help me, she said that I had deleted all the aol files on my computer that would prevent a proper reinstall, and that she could not help me any further. She suggested calling Apple support to help with this! Needless to say I've just about lost it with AOL! Do you know of any other programs I might check on the Mac to see if something else is preventing the new aol program from reinstalling? The only new program other than the one you recommened in your first message (Easy Find) was an upgrade to Microsoft office which is an automatic upgrade.
Thanks,
Tim

Hey Bob,
Tried to install one more time; this time instead of using the easy install, I picked the cumstom install. Inside were two choices, main aol program and aol scheduler. I only checked the main aol program, clicked on download and away it went. Was up and running in two minutes. Thanks again for taking time to help with this!
