Youny, welcome to macosx.com

Here follow the classical advices/maintenance tips I generally give as a first step in solving the troubleshooting:
----------------------------
(1) Could you try to repair permissions
(must be admin)
Launch Applications/Utilities/DiskUtility
On the left pane, select the drive
On the right, select the First Aid (or SOS) tab
Then click on repair permissions and let run; don not worry about messages like " new permissions...."
Quit DiskUtility
Shutdown and reboot

(2) could also download Macjanitor
http://personalpages.tds.net/~brian_...acjanitor.html
and use it to run the maintenance scripts
The maintenance scripts are Unix scripts which are automatically ran on your
Mac between 02Am and 04 am..if your Mac is on at this moment.
I can advice you to run, through Macjanitor, the daily script each day, the week script each week, ..and so on

(3) Could you also download Onyx
http://www.titanium.free.fr/pgs/english.html
and use it to clean the caches.

(4) running fsck
To run fsck, you first need to start up your Mac in single-user mode. Here's how:
1. Restart your Mac.
2. Immediately press and hold the Command and "S" keys.
You'll see a bunch of text begin scrolling on your screen. In a few more seconds, you'll see the Unix command line prompt (#).
You're now in single-user mode.

Now that you're at the # prompt, here's how to run fsck:
1. Type: "fsck -y" (that's fsck-space-minus-y).
If the 1st pass says that nothing has to be repaired, try "fsck -fy"
Option "-y" forces a "yes" response to every question of the system, which is very important because answering "no" to a fsck question will stop the process !
Option "-f" forces fsck to chack a system that this command seems to have find "clean"
2. Press Return.
The fsck utility will blast some text onto your screen. If there's damage to your disk, you'll see a message that says:

***** FILE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED *****

If you see this message--and this is extremely important-- repeat running fsck. It is normal to have to run fsck more than once -- the first run's repairs often uncover additional problems..

When fsck finally reports that no problems were found, and the # prompt reappears:
3. Type: "reboot" to restart,
or type "exit" to start up without rebooting.
4. Press Return.

Your Mac should proceed to start up normally to the login window or the Finder.
---------

Do you have follow some of the advices when you said "did what it was suggested but with no results" ?
If yes, which ones ? If some no, could you try them ?

Which amount a free space do you have on your hard drive ? (In your case, as far as you do not have a great quantity of RAM, I would say that 2-3GB for paginating can be required by the system.
Pagination means that the system will use a part of the drive as an extension of the RAM; this "on drive" RAM is, of course, slower that the real physical one, especially if you hard drive is an old 4200 rpm as in the iMac G3 and 1st generation of G4 (like yours)

What do you mean by "multitasking" ?
Open two "normal" programs: iTunes/browser/Word.. ?
Or
On the contrary, applying a filter in Photoshop 6 while, at the same moment, viewing a DVD ?
Yes, with 192 MB of Ram, this must be very slow !
-----
Could you try to download the 10.3.3 Combo
http://www.apple.com/support/downloa...nedupdate.html
and re-apply it over your existing 10.3.3 ?

Philippe

Nothing had worked i tryed everything but still freezes at the wrong time, i mean by multitasking: i am working with photoshop and listening to music for exemple, chatting with msn and surfing at the same time, doing two things at the same time, sometimes only one thing can make freeeze, what kills me is that i the shortcut to unfreeze it doesn'y not respond,so i have to reboot it again and again, i know it's an old generation of G4 but it's a good computer and i will do anything to make not freeze or make it a litle bit faster, i am thinking about buying a powerbook g4, but i don't feel like selling my g4, no one would pay anything for it anyway, but for now it's the only computer i am using for my graphic design work until i save money and buy the powerbook. if there is any solution to stop it from freezing would be great, and i gues i need to buy a memory card to make it faster, but i am not sure what to buy exactly.
Thank you
Youny

Youny,

(1) I would try to free some disk space: I would say keep free at least 6-7 GB..that can help.

(2) Yes 192MB is short.....but... I would no invest a cent on 400 Mhz machine.
I guess: 128Mb from Apple + 64MB you added. Right ?
Could you try to remove the 64MB board and make tests to see if the RAM board is not the culprit.

(3) >my graphic design work
If this is your professionnal job, I would invest in a G5, more a PM than an iMac.

Philippe
