Computer Type: apple
Model: G3
RAM: 64meg
RAM Enhancer: Virtual Memory
OS Version: MacOS 8

Description:
I bought Conflict Catcher 4.0 & Spring Cleaning 2.0 in June but have been too nervous to actually use them. Now I'd like to try. No, I guess I'd better stop putting it off, that's more accurate.

Can you tell me what I should do before I install them? If you say, "back up data", what does that mean and which data? Do you mean, to a floppy? & which data? When I read the instructions, it sounded like what for me would be some "major shakin'" going on. But this morning my G3 wouldn't start, wouldn't even give me the happy face until my 3rd try, & that was with extensions off. For some reason everything loaded finally, but of course now I'm even more nervous than I was before. But I guess there's some kind of conflict so I should just stop putting it off.

I went to both of their sites but their instructions indicated that the whole thing was no problem, I just put the pretty disc in and don't even have to think about it. But first I should back up my data. What data? What can disappear in a software installation? What should I worry about? (or *not* worry about?)

I have no experience with putting in new software. Basically, I'm using what came with the G3. I won't even upgrade the Netscape I'm using (3.01) or the OS because I'm too nervous & too clueless. This is a really bad combination. You've saved me several times.

I hope this form is working again, as it has not been the past few weeks - question has disappeared into the ether - & the help you've given me before has really made my life easier!

Hello
It's not necessary to back up your programs. Only back up those files that you deem important. For example, your account files in Quicken, any word processor files that you wouldn't want to lose, any graphics that you want to keep, etc.... I have installed CC several times and have never had a problem with it yet. Just make sure you restart your computer with the extensions off before you install it.
After you install it you should open your extension and control panel folders and disable the Extension Mgr program from Apple that comes with your system software. Just drag them to the Extension Disabled and Control Panel Disabled folders. If you don't see any folders named like that you can create them yourself.
That should get you going on your way.

Good luck
