I have a PANASONIC NV-MX500 which only has a USB connection and no firewire. Is there any way you know for me to connect to my PowerbookG4 in either iMovie or QuickTime Pro (registered)?
I really don't want to have to change cameras.

Yes it is possible

There are a number of software packages that will possibly do the trick for you. Make sure to protect yourself by using a credit card, checking the warranty and checking for feedback on the internet.

a) http://www.ecamm.com/mac/ichatusbcam/
b) http://www.engadget.com/entry/3241358603524458/
c) try googling " usb ichat os x "

Many thanks for trying to help. However, the PANASONIC above is a digital video camera not a web cam - is your advise still valid? If not, do you have any other ideas? We're talking about a pretty high investment by the way, which is why I would love to get it to work.

I think that the difference between webcam and full blown camcorder will not be a problem. ( as long as the computer is up to it )

I researched the NV-MX500. So far i have found specs for an NV-MX500A. the A version has firewire.
Unfortunately, I was unable to sort through the raft of numbers I found for the MX500.

Are you sure the spec page only shows USB ?
