Hi,

I'm just starting to play with Garage Band and I wonder is there a way to connect my guitar to laptop. Jack -> USB? Any ideas?

Howdy! Here's a great place to start:
http://www.griffintechnology.com/pro...bles/index.php

If you don't have an audio input (not headphone jack but input) you might need the Griffin iMic (it's on the web page above) but you'll be off and running.

Let me know if this works for you.

It's a shame that iBook doesn't have audio input... Anyway - I have read some bad reviews aboud iMic and I wanted to know if there are maybe some other ways to plug something in.

Here's a great place to start, apple's website goes in depth on recording real instruments. What you need is an interface and the iMic just might not be fast enough to work well--might be part of the reviews you've been reading:
http://www.apple.com/support/garageb...alinstruments/

So it looks like you just need to choose an interface. Here's apple's page on recommended interfaces. Check it out! I'm salivating cuz I'm a bass player. Might need something like this too, though I'm not sure my protools le Mbox is compatible with garageband…
