Whenever I connect to our server, the progress box remains on my desktop spooling continuously until I relaunch the finder. My G5 has not had this problem before and I can still connect to the server. At the same time Illustrator CS2 has now begun to perform very slowly at times forcing me to restart the software.

Joanne,

There could be several reasons why you are having trouble. I will help you tackle one at a time.

First, go to Home>Library
Go to the view menu and select by list, putting everything in alpha order. This will make it easier to find specific folders.
Open Recent Servers
Delete all the files in that folder and empty the trash.

Now go to Home>Library>Cache
Go to the view menu and select by list.
Locate the Illustrator folder, open it and trash all the files/folders in there.

If you do not have an Illustrator folder, locate the Adobe folder and in there open the cache folder - trashing all the files in there.

Empty the trash.

While in the cache folder, open Safari and delete all the folders in there.
Do the same with the Mail folder.
If you use Widgets open the Dashboard Client folder and delete all the folders in there.
Empty the trash.

Now give the server a try.

Do you shut down the computer every night? It could be that because of that the system's nightly duties are not being done. These routine jobs are important to the stability and smoothness of the system. To correct this use Macaroni.

http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/9633/macaroni

Once downloaded and installed, allow it to do all three of the jobs (monthly, weekly and nightly). You should notice a big difference within three days.

Keep me posted on if this helps.

Thanks Cheryl for your help & advice, I've downloaded Mac Janitor which I believe works the same as Macaroni, so I shall give that a try first.

Joanne,

Yes, that will do the job as well. Are you able to connect to the server? Is Illustrator behaving?

Cheryl,
I'm still able to connect to the server, but the dialogue box remains spooling on the desk top. I wanted to give MacJanitor a few days to see if it would cure the problem before I worked through your other suggestions. I will perform those tasks and let you know if it's worked.
Thanks again

Hi Cheryl
Our server actually broke last week so was unable to email you a response. But it seems like this could have been the problem. New server replaced and all seems good....for now.
Thanks for your help

Joanne,

I am glad to know that things are working properly and it wasn't just your computer causing the problems. I will close this ticket.
