While working on version S (yes...S) of a layout for my client, InDesign 2.0.2 decided to quit. I have been trying to get that file to open up for two days now and am on a tight deadline. My other files will open, so I don't understand what happened to this one. All of the files I'm working on are on an NT server in my office, but I also downloaded the job files to my hard drive to see if it would open from there...no luck. Please help!
Howdy!
First, duplicate your nasty ID file and put it somewhere safe.
Now, when the file first crashed there should have been a save file (starts with a line of gibberish characters). Do you still have that? It aids in recovery.
Unfortunately, I've never been able to recover a corrupted InDesign file, but here's another forum that might be more targeted to your question:

Here's a thread with ideas on fixing corrupted files:

Search for "recovery" in this document:

InDesign has an auto-recovery feature that uses the temp file. You'll need that temp file, I think, if you want to recover your file.
In the future save a BUJIC file of all your Mechanicals. Helps you to avoid this very problem, though I know this doesn't help you at the moment.
Thank you for your help. It turned out to be faster and less of a headache to just redo everything I'd done the day before. Finally the client approved! I'll try to be more careful saving files more frequently from now on.
Glad you got it worked out, mate.
