Problem: Combination
Computer Type: APPLE
Model: power mac 8600/300
RAM: 65+
RAM Enhancer: None
OS Version: MacOS 8
Description:
my main problem is that the control strip is missing and using the control panel controls won't work either. the system folder shows it is still there and the extension is turned on. I restarted several times and at one point there was a white silhouette of the strip tab in the upper left hand corner of the screen, but then it dissappeared after another restart. Also 9 times out of 10 when i start up photoshop 4.o.1 and then go to open a file it quits due to a type 1 system error other applications open though.
i recently added more ram (i'm at 320 mg now) and rebuilt the desktop several weeks ago and then began having unexpected 'quits'(more than usual). but in the past few days the above problems have been occuring.
i have had this sytem since february (my first experience with computers) and have had next to no problems. oh, i also installed dr. solomans virex the same time as the ram and doing a quick scan shows no viruses. any ideas?
sincerely

Alan,
Since you've already rebuilt your desktop file let's forget that for now.
Before my final suggestion:
Startup your Mac from the System CD-ROM and run Disk First Aid (perhaps there's a corrupt file on the disk accounting for the CS problems)
or
preferably, do the same procedure but with Norton Utilities .
If either one of these utilities do not fix the problem, redeliver the OS (I'm sure you didn't want to hear this)....then again...you have to determine how important the Control Strip is to you .... Many of the preset Applescripts already do most of the functions that Control Strip modules do, but accessible from the Apple Menu Items....
